Shri Justice Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar
Shri Justice Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar born on 30th July 1957. He did B.Com from Mulund College of Commerce, Mumbai and L.L.B. from K.C. Law College, Mumbai. He was enrolled as Advocate on 10th February, 1982. He was appointed as Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on 29th March, 2000 and confirmed as permanent Judge on 8th April, 2002. He was appointed as Chief Justice of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh on 4th April, 2013. Thereafter, he was appointed as Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court on 24th November, 2013. He was elevated as the Judge of the Supreme Court of India and assumed charge on May 13, 2016 and continued till 29th July, 2022. He was nominated by the Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports as the Chairperson of the Selection Committee to recommend candidates for being conferred the highest National Sports Awards 2022 and 2023 [Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award,Arjuna Award, Dronacharya Award, Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award and Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy]. He was the Chairperson of self-regulatory body of News Broadcasters Federation, being NBF-Professional News Broadcasters Standards Authority at New Delhi. While working as Judge of Supreme Court, he was nominated as the Chairman of Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal. After demitting office of Judge, Supreme Court, he continued as full-time Chairman, Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal till 8th March, 2024. On 10th March 2024, he has been appointed as the Chairperson, Lokpal of India.
